All these surgical forceps has different sets of usages, these are discussed below-

Thumb forceps are spring forceps which is used by compression between your thumb and forefinger and are used for the purpose of holding, grasping or manipulating body tissue. They are not ratcheting style. For example, you can use it to hold the tissue or move or move to dress during the surgery.

Hemostatic forceps are the hinged forceps which also look like a scissor. Hinge forceps come with both lock and without a lock; if it has lock it can be used for clamping too.

Thumb forceps or surgical tweezers come with a variety of tips. The tips may be flat, cupped, serrated, ringed, grooved, and diamond-dusted or have teeth. The tips may also be straight, curved or angled. The serrations or teeth forceps cause less damage than the flat forceps because it requires less pressure to maintain a firm grip. Use smooth or cross-hatched forceps for removing sutures, moving dress or other drapes. Commonly used thumb forceps include Adson forceps, Iris forceps, and Foester forceps.

Locking forceps may be called clamps and are used to secure and hold the tissue. They are often used to control the blood flow, they are called hemostats. When they are used to grasp and hold the needle they are often called the needle holders.
